About North Window
Last updated 2026-05-29
North Window is an independent editorial project about indoor houseplant care, written with Canadian homes in mind. Our guides focus on the conditions readers here actually deal with: long, dark winters, dry air from central heating, and the difference between a south-facing apartment window and a north-facing one.
What we cover
Our writing is limited to indoor houseplant care: reading light, building watering routines, choosing species for the light you have, and adjusting care across the seasons. We avoid broad lifestyle content and keep each guide practical and specific.
How the guides are written
Each article is written and reviewed by editors who keep plants in Canadian homes. Where we mention general horticultural practice, we point to publicly available references such as botanical gardens and university extension services rather than restating figures we cannot verify. When precise data is not available, we use plain descriptions instead of inventing numbers.
Images
Photographs on this site come from Wikimedia Commons under their respective free licences. They are used to illustrate the species and conditions described in the text.
